Spar has restructured its trading team to compete harder in the convenience sector.
The symbol group has brought together its brand and own-brand trading teams into one unit, bringing the chain closer to the Spar wholesale companies and enabling better service to retailers.
Group trading director Peter Miller heads the reshaped department. Beneath him come Mark Keeley and Chris Lewis, responsible for fresh and grocery products, and licensed and news respectively.
Both Keeley and Lewis will look after branded and own-brand products.
Tom Davies, who was trading director for own-brand products, has left the business.
Spar has also strengthened its food and grocery trading teams, recruiting managers from Safeway, Bestway Cash & Carry and McVities.
Miller said: 'The new-look trading structure means that we shall be more demanding of suppliers, so they recognise the true value of a route to market to some 12 million customers a week.'
