This is an increase of 2.3 per cent and seems set to rise further according to a report from Asda. In the past decade, the average increase has been about 0.8 per cent.
The total spend on sending children to school in the UK has now hit£10.5 billion.
The report cites soaring food prices as one of the biggest contributors to the rise. School meals accounts for£388 of the total spend, up 3.8 per cent on the year before.
Clothing including uniforms and PE kits was the largest spending category accounting for 43.9 per cent of the total cost.
