Retail giant Amazon has opened its first Second Chance Store in central London, offering customers a range of “quality returned products”.

The store is at the Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury and offers customers up to 50% off on a range of household appliances, books, games and toys, electricals and more.

The store will be open for two weeks and is being run in partnership with children’s charity Barnardo’s. All proceeds from the store are being donated to support its work with children and young people.

Amazon has donated more than 4,000 products to be stocked in the store, taken from used, open-box and refurbished products across its site.

The store also features a Repair Zone where customers can take part in free repair workshops with experts.

Amazon UK country manager John Boumphrey said that across the UK and Europe, customer demand has made secondhand shopping a £1bn business for the retailer and has helped customers save £100m.

He said: “Amazon is committed to giving more products a second chance – both through helping customers shop pre-loved, and through programmes to recycle, trade-in and repair products, contributing to a more circular economy.

“The Second Chance Store that we’ve launched with Barnardo’s is all about offering customers a great way to shop secondhand this festive season while supporting a brilliant charity we have been working with for many years.”

In the first nine months of 2023, Amazon said sales of secondhand goods in the UK increased by 15% year on year.
