Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has announced the return of the Eid festival following the huge success at Westfield London last year.
Now expanding to the Arena at Westfield Stratford City, the event will span three days from 19-21 April. There will be a sister event hosted in the Atrium at Westfield London from 12-14 April.
Eid 2023 set “new records” at Westfield, as URW said it marked the busiest Saturday since December 2019. Sales rose 8% year on year with footfall levels nearing those seen on Boxing Day.
The Sunday following Eid was the third busiest day of 2023, as footfall increased by 18% compared with 2022 levels.
The lead-up to Eid in 2023 saw the average expenditure by Muslim shoppers at Westfield soar from £89.9m in February, to £452.6m in March.
With the festival is expanding to a second location, URW is expecting to see a “notable uptick” in visitor numbers around the celebration period.
A recent report from GottaBe! Ethnic and Algebra Consulting also showed the importance of Muslim shoppers, as the research showed the Muslim community has an estimated £31bn annual economic impact.
URW head of shopping centre management Katie Wyle said: “As the proud host of Europe’s largest Eid al-Fitr celebration, we are excited to welcome visitors to our biggest Eid event this year.
“Anticipating a strong uptick in footfall compared to last year’s record numbers, we are thrilled to announce that, for the first time, the festivities will take place at both Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City.
“This expansion speaks volumes about its continued success and is an example of how our spaces unite communities during significant cultural occasions.”
