The £100m Friars Walk development in Newport, South Wales, will officially open its doors on November 12, developers have revealed.
The 390,000 sq ft retail and leisure destination is one of only four shopping centres set to open in the UK this year, alongside Grand Central Birmingham, Flemingate in East Yorkshire and Westfield Bradford Broadway.
Friars Walk, which is being developed by Queensberry Real Estate, will include 35 shops, an eight-screen cinema, 10 family restaurants and a 360-space car park.
The scheme is currently 65% let and will be anchored by a flagship 93,000 sq ft Debenhams store.
Topshop, Next, H&M, River Island and New Look are among the other retailers who have already taken units at the centre.
Queensberry Real Estate chief executive Paul Sargent said he was “delighted” the centre will open on schedule.
He added: “This is an amazing achievement as we set the date over a year ago before even going on site. I must thank all parties involved and a special thanks to Newport City Council and our contractor Bowmer and Kirkland for getting us to this stage.
“Friars Walk will transform Newport, giving people a reason to return to the city centre. We have a fantastic line up of retailers and restaurants and we estimate that we will receive around 10 million visitors in the first year alone.
“There is a real buzz and sense of excitement from within the community and we will create an environment that people will want to return to time and time again.”
