Online music equipment retailer Gear4Music is seeking to open a London store as it gears up for a stock market flotation.
The retailer is seeking to open the store within the next 12 months and is targeting an area in the vicinity of Denmark Street, which is known for being the traditional hub of music retailers.
Gear4Music is seeking property agents to identify the location, which will be between 8,000 and 12,000 sq ft.
The Yorkshire-based online retailer already has one 9,000 sq ft showroom in York.
News of it seeking a London flagship store comes a few days after it emerged it had appointed Panmure Gordon to explore a float.
Due to the size of the retailer it is most likely it will float on AIM.
Gear4Music delivered revenue of £24m in the year ending February 28 as sales were driven by “strong international sales and buoyant Christmas trading”.
Gear4Music founder Andrew Wass said: “2014 was an incredibly strong period for our business and we have entered 2015 in excellent shape. The next phase of our growth plans will see us invest further in our online marketing initiatives while also developing our bespoke IT platform.”
Gear4Music sells across 19 european countries and the retailer now stocks more than 27,000 products from 550 manufacturers after launching in 2003.
It also sells own-brand products and operates from a 135,000 sq ft warehouse near York, where it despatches more than 4,000 orders per day, and has capacity to despatch 10,000.
