Value retailer Home Bargains will close all of its UK stores for three days over the festive period, allowing colleagues to enjoy time off with loved ones.

At the group’s annual conference, it announced that all stores will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Home Bargains also confirmed that all of its stores will close at an earlier time of 5pm on Christmas Eve, again allowing staff to take more time off despite a busy time for retail.

A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year. Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones.

“Therefore, we feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off around Christmas and New Year.”

Retail is expected to have a bumper golden quarter this year, as research by Havas Media Network revealed 67% of Brits plan to spend the same or more than last year during the golden quarter, compared with just 45% in 2022.

Some retailers have already started their Christmas recruitment campaign, with The Perfume Shop planning to hire over 750 temporary staff across 196 stores in the lead-up to the festive season.
