Pets at Home has opened two new smaller format stores this month as it bolsters its presence on London’s high streets.
The petcare retailer opened two compact shops in Sutton and Whetstone this month, offering a range of essentials as well as a pet advice counter.
Both high-street locations are situated at the base of residential buildings in London with limited parking – a change from Pets at Home’s retail park homeland.
The retailer told Retail Week that the stores are sized at around 5,000sq ft, a fraction of its typical unit size and without its usual vet and grooming services.
Pets at Home Sutton store manager Rachel Etherington, said: “We’re delighted to have opened our brand-new Pets at Home pet care centre here on the high street. Our location allows us to provide pet owners with convenient access to all their pet care essentials, as well as expert advice from our specially trained colleagues, right on their doorstep.
“We’re extremely excited to be part of the local community here in Sutton and look forward to welcoming customers and their pets through the doors.”
A Pets at Home spokeswoman told Retail Week: ”Whetstone and Sutton are the latest to be added to the list of existing small format pet care centres, which includes Camden, Putney, Balham and Ealing.”
Pets at Home declined to confirm if there were more high-street openings planned for the future.
