Uniqlo is on the expansion trail once more, 10 years after shuttering all its UK shops outside London, as it prepares to sign for a store in Manchester.
The Japanese fashion retailer is to sign for HMV’s store on Market Street, Manchester, Retail Week understands. It will be a return to the street for Uniqlo, which closed its shop there in 2004.
It would be the first store to open outside of the South East since Uniqlo closed down all its UK stores, other than those in London, a decade ago after poor trading.
Sources have indicated Manchester will be one of several store openings as Uniqlo seeks to expand across the UK once more. It is thought to be eying large urban centres.
Uniqlo operates 11 UK stores, 10 of which are in central London. It also has a store in Bluewater.
Uniqlo could not be reached for comment.
