Victoria’s Secret boss Ellis Quinn said ‘the demand for immediate product is greater than ever’

Speaking at Retail Week’s Consumer Summit in London on Thursday, The Very Group head of technology Simon Holland said same-day delivery is something the retailer is considering.

“It’s something we’re looking at, not something we’re offering at the moment,” he said.

“We don’t do the same day at the moment because we’d have to work out what works for our customers.

“We mainly fulfil from Derby so it’s a question of when we would have the cutoff time for same-day delivery and if that would work for customers.”

The Very Group has different delivery options based on different factors, including click and collect, free delivery and next-day delivery.

Holland said the majority of customers choose a standard delivery offering, whereas 20% opt for next-day delivery.

Speaking on another panel, Victoria’s Secret managing director Ellis Quinn said same-day delivery is something the retailer should be looking at, especially as there is a “trend” among consumers for the service.

Quinn said: “If a customer lives around our depots, there’s no reason why we couldn’t do same-day delivery and we should be looking at that.

“I think the demand for that immediate product is greater than ever.”

He added that having this option would differentiate the retailer from others that offer similar products to Victoria’s Secret.

“One of the biggest challenges we have is choice,” Quinn said.

“We are in a market dominated by players like Marks & Spencer that are on every high street –we’re not.

“The way we can compete is to win the race to get the product to the customer. Maybe same-day [delivery] is part of the armour for that.”
