Google will open a standalone pop-up store in New York this month selling a variety of own-brand devices including VR headsets.
The online giant, which opened a shop-in-shop at Currys PC World’s Tottenham Court Road flagship last March, is opening a pop-up store in New York on October 20.
The technology firm is following in Amazon’s footsteps by developing and selling its own-brand range of hardware devices after halting sales of its Google Glass eyewear last January.
The pop-up shop, which will be called ‘Made by Google’, is expected to sell Google devices including a VR headset and a voice-activated Google Home device.
It is not yet clear if the outlet is a trial or part of a wider bricks-and-mortar roll-out by the technology firm.
Google’s foray into bricks-and-mortar retail follows its roll-out of Android Pay for UK shoppers in May.
The digital behemoth has been bolstering its retail credentials in recent months, having partnered with Argos on a real-time advertising trial and collaborated with Levi’s on a wearable tech-embedded jacket prototype.
