Grocer Morrisons has begun rolling out a new payment processing system as part of its store systems replacement project.

The first location has gone live in the past month, and the roll-out to all 380 store and fuel sites will take place in a phased approach over the next year. The S1 Retail Payment solution has been integrated with Morrison’s existing PIN entry devices, and the Retalix EPoS system that the grocer is beginning to introduce to its stores.

The software will run on Morrisons’ point-of-sale terminals and in its central datacentre. It will handle all card acceptance, authorisation, settlement and back office processing.

The Retalix EPoS system is being introduced to consolidate various systems used by the grocer in its stores, cafes, dry cleaning desks and fuel stations, and the S1 system will similarly replace disparate payment systems.

S1 marketing director Mark McMurtrie said that the benefits of the consolidation will include reduced support and maintenance costs, and reduced costs of compliance with PCIDSS and
EMV mandates.

He added that Morrisons will also gain a single view of all card transactions with the system, which should help improve its decision making.
