Tesco has launched a one-to-one online beauty consultation service using Google Plus’ video conferencing technolgy.
Consumers can book free, confidential consultations via video with industry experts and bloggers using Google Plus ‘hangouts’. Users will receive an email following each session detailing product overviews and recommendations.
Tesco claims this is the first time a company has offered online beauty consultations.
The service, created by digital agency Zone, is part of an on-going plan to increase customer engagement and build brand loyalty.
Tesco marketing director Mark Baxter said: “The launch of beauty hangouts as part of our marketing strategy will continue to drive the growth of the beauty category within Tesco.
“The online beauty consultations allow us to offer a personal, expert service outside the store environment in a way which also reflects the democratic nature of the brand.”
Zone chief executive Jon Davie said Tesco was rolling out the service because “excessive choice and scientific marketing jargon can make it difficult for consumers to shop in the category”.
This is not the first time Tesco has used Google Plus technology. In July 2014, the brand used Google to create the UK’s first online field trips for primary school children nationwide.
