Tesco has launched a legal challenge against a subsidiary of Mike Ashley’s Sport’s Direct, after the supermarket giant overpaid for some bicycles.
The bizarre case has been brought to court after Tesco paid £984,000 for the bikes from Universal Cycles, which is majority owned by Sports Direct, by accident.
It was meant to pay £984 for the Muddy Fox Suspension Bikes and claims to have not been fully reimbursed for the overpayment, according to the Telegraph.
Tesco alleges that Universal paid back £863,000 with £121,000 still owing. As well as the outstanding money Tesco is also seeking legal costs.
It is understood that a meeting has been set up between the two parties to try and settle the dispute out of court.
Yesterday Sports Direct hired former drugs Tsar and chief constable of West Yorkshire police Keith Hellawell as its non-executive chairman.
