London morning newspaper City AM claimed Sir Terry is leaving and that it is rumoured he could be making a move into the public sector, perhaps to take up a role as the Government's health tsar.
It was also claimed Sir Terry had decided to quit in October and that the retailer would announce his departure during the Christmas period. A person close to the board reportedly said: 'Terry told senior members of staff in the last month or so that he was leaving.'
The supermarket giant said the report was 'complete nonsense'.
However, in July of this year, Chief Medical Officer Sir Liam Donaldson said the health service had a lot to learn from Tesco's customer focus. Sir Terry has described talk about an NHS role as 'a rumour', but it refuses to go away.
