Marks & Spencer still holds its own despite current troubles
Tesco tops Retail Week's Top of the Shops league this year, with around£10 billion pounds worth of sales more than its nearest rival Sainsbury's. Marks & Spencer retains a healthy fifth place behind Safeway and Asda, while Kingfisher has dropped out of the top ten to settle at number twelve. According to the league's compiler, Retail Knowledge bank research director Robert Clarke, the surprise candidate this year has been TK Maxx, which entered the league at 45.
'This is clearly one to watch, with sales more than doubling in three years,' he said.
