Tesco is trialling a scheme to give customers a chance to remove and leave excess packaging in store after they have purchased goods.
The six-week trial will take place in its Tesco Extra stores in Guilford in Surrey and Ilminster in Somerset.
Tesco executive director for corporate and legal affairs Lucy Neville-Rolfe said: “‘Tesco is committed to tackling environmental and climate change and we are always working hard to play a positive role and make it easier for our customers to do the same.”
She commented: “We know that our customers want us to continue to reduce packaging. At the same time we need to make sure that we are preventing unnecessary food waste.”
