Tesco has revealed robust trading at its Asian stores, ahead of its investors and analysts’ visit to the operations.
In China, where Tesco has 56 stores, like-for-like sales grew 8 per cent in the 10 weeks to November 1, representing a 14 per cent rise over the first half.
Tesco's 20 Malaysian stores reported a 2 per cent like-for-like rise in the 10 weeks to November 1, a 1 per cent first-half increase.
In South Korea, like-for-like sales at Tesco's Homeplus stores fell 2 per cent, including a seasonal adjustment for the different timing of the Chuseok festival. First-half like-for-likes at it 137 stores in the country were flat.
This week, Tesco’s senior and local management will give an overview of the Asian operations in presentations and store tours.
Tesco will release a third-quarter trading update on December 2.
