TJ Hughes administrators have sold four of the collapsed retailer’s stores to Lewis’s Home Retail.
Lewis’s has acquired the business and assets of TJ Hughes’ flagship on London Road in Liverpool, as well as stores in Glasgow, Sheffield and Eastbourne.
All employees will transfer to Lewis’s Home Retail, a company associated with The Benross Group, which on its website calls itself “one of the foremost suppliers of housewares, electrical, lighting, toys and leisure products”.
Ernst & Young joint administrator Tom Jack said: “We are delighted to have exchanged contracts on this deal, which saves 442 jobs and continues the TJ Hughes legacy in Liverpool, as well as in other locations across the UK.”
The Joint Administrators said they “continue to seek a sale of the company’s remaining business and assets as a going concern, whilst also trading stock through the whole of the Group’s 57-store portfolio. Promotional activity is continuing in all TJ Hughes stores”.
TJ Hughes collapsed into administration in June, as revealed by Retail Week.
