Dr Martens chief executive Steve Murray has left the business and been replaced on an interim basis by former Asda boss Paul Mason.
Murray has left the Permira-owned footwear retailer and brand after three years at the helm.
Mason, who took on the role of non-executive chairman at Dr Martens two years ago, has stepped in to replace Murray while a search for his permanent successor is carried out.
Dr Martens has stabilised its business under Murray’s leadership, but is now on a push to diversify its product range, expand its store portfolio and grow its international operations.
In an internal memo to staff last week, Dr Martens said: “After three successful years running Dr Martens, Steve Murray CEO and the board have agreed that it is time for a change in leadership.
“Steve has done some great work putting people and structures in place and we are now well placed to move into a new phase of accelerated growth.”
Murray said: “Dr Martens is an iconic brand that has a truly global appeal. It was a privilege to lead the company through this important phase in its history, and to help build on its already strong product offering.
“I am proud of what we have achieved during the three years I have been CEO, and would like to thank all of our people for their commitment and dedication.
“With the foundations in place, I am sure Dr Martens will continue to grow both in the UK and internationally.”
Mason added that Murray had played “an important role” in developing Dr Martens strategy and had left the business “in a very strong position”.
