EBay has today submitted a Mobile Manifesto to the Government outlining what industry and policymakers must do to support the UK’s growing mobile economy.
The manifesto urges Ofcom to proceed as quickly as possible in rolling out the next generation of broadband in 2013 which will improve speed and coverage.
Research, commissioned by eBay and carried out by Verdict, showed 45% of people questioned were dissatisfied with the speed they can download data.
The research also revealed that mobile shopping could deliver a £4.5bn boost to Britain’s economy by 2016. Other key focuses in the manifesto include mobile payments and supporting cross-border trade.
The Mobile Manifesto was created following consultation with retailers as well as network operators and consumer groups.
Marks and Spencer mobile business development manager Rosie Srao said: “Our customers are using their mobiles to make shopping more convenient and easy and it’s up to us to make sure that we make the customer journey as simple, fast and engaging as possible.”
