Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo has opened a pop-up shop off east London’s Brick Lane, called UT Gallery.
The temporary store, which will trade from May 2 to May 18, showcases the retailer’s global collaborations with artists and designers under its UT Project umbrella. A Uniqlo spokeswoman said the gallery taps into a “more edgy, artist and design community”.
The UT Project generates more than 700 t-shirts a year for sale by Uniqlo worldwide. UT Gallery is only the second standalone store created for the sub-brand and the first in the UK.
The gallery’s interior is based on a photographic-style presentation by Matt Irwin. There are 30 t-shirt designs, all at£12.99. Uniqlo’s first UT store opened in Tokyo’s Harajuka district 18 months ago, where t-shirts are sold in canisters in fridges.
