Virgin Megastores trading director Dave Wesson has left after nine years at the business.
A replacement is being sought, and marketing director Steve Kincaid will take over responsibility for trading in the meantime.
Wesson joined the business in 1995 as a financial analyst and rose up the ranks, becoming trading director last July. A Megastores spokeswoman said that Wesson was leaving for personal reasons.
Virgin Megastores executive director for retail Simon Douglas said: 'I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the business and on a personal level to thank Dave for his contribution to the Virgin business over the years and to wish him certain success in the future.'
Douglas recently split the visual media manager role to create a head of games and head of DVDs. The move aimed to strengthen the retailer's presence in both markets.
James Cooke, a category manager for Virgin Megastores, has been promoted to head of games, while the retailer is searching for a head of DVDs.
Last week, Virgin revealed that its like-for-like sales in the four weeks to January 1 grew 3.1 per cent. The retailer plans to open 10 shops this year to challenge HMV harder in the specialist entertainment market.
