Vom Fass, the upscale German off-licence group, intends to open up to 50 UK stores by the end of 2006.
The retailer, which operates franchised outlets, plans three shops in 'prestigious locations' in London and Glasgow. A store at Bournemouth, Dorset, is slated for the end of this year, with a further 12 to 15 openings next year.
According to UK franchise holder Richard Mosconi, the business aims to double its store portfolio in 2006. 'We are going to begin serious expansion in the UK, and we hope to open two stores each month,' he said. Vom Fass also has ambitions to push into Ireland.
The retailer, which stocks herbs and vinegars alongside wines and spirits, opened its first UK shop in Notting Hill in 2000. There are now six stores and four concessions, at Selfridges in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Vom Fass has 150 shops internationally, mainly in its domestic market.
