Waterstone's has appointed Julia Cove-Smith as head of marketing, reporting to marketing director Lesley Miles.
The position has been vacant since Amy Nelson-Bennett left to join Harper Collins as marketing director for general books last November.
Cove-Smith, currently marketing director at WHSmith travel stores, is expected to join at the end of October.
She will work closely with Miles on marketing strategy and implementation.
Miles said: 'She has a great deal of retail and books experience and will be a great asset to our team.'
Miles holds overall responsibility for marketing strategy and communications.
