West End retail staff volunteered in a big clean up of Oxford Street this morning in time for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this weekend.
Staff from John Lewis, Debenhams and Next were out in force to add the finishing touches to a May Makeover Campaign spearheaded by New West End Company - which represents major retailers and property owners in Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street - and Westminster City Council.
Retail staff volunteered for the 60 Minute Makeover to polish and shine the front of stores ahead of the Jubilee weekend and the Olympics.
New West End Company chief executive Richard Dickinson said: “Staff right across the West End have been pulling out all the stops to make sure Oxford Street is ready to welcome the 25 million visitors expected over the coming months.
“Businesses have been deep-cleaning pavements - an area equivalent to the size of four football pitches - and polishing over 1,500 metres of store frontage and windows.”
