Starting out selling designer-quality bed linen and related household accessories, gradual range extension has been central to its strategy. It now offers clothing, fragrances, children’s and babywear, toys and gifts. The online operation accounts for more than half of group sales and is supported by a network of 70 UK stores, including concessions.

Sales at The White Company lifted 3.9% to £287.2m for the year ending 29 July 2023 (FY2023). The retailer said “The start of our 2023 financial year coincided with the worst economic conditions and was further impacted by the August 2022 heatwave. As a result, our first quarter trading was very challenging but then a good Christmas followed by further financial improvements in the second half led to a positive financial result”.
