Wyevale Garden Centres has appointed Andrew Sells as its new chairman.
Sells is a chartered accountant and was chairman of Linden Homes for 16 years until 2007.
He replaces Jim Hodkinson, who left his position as executive chairman in September. Tycoon Sir Tom Hunter, whose West Coast Capital investment business formerly owned the retailer, had been assuming the responsibility of chairman in the interim. Hunter’s share of the retailer was diluted when he conducted a debt-for-equity swap with HBOS earlier this year.
Wyevale chief executive Nicholas Marshall said: “In Andrew Sells we have found a chairman with the unique combination of significant experience of growth businesses and a real commitment and passion for horticulture. I am delighted to welcome him to the board.”
Hunter said: “I am delighted we have found someone of Andrew’s calibre to chair Wyevale. I would like to wish him and the team all the best.”
Andrew Sells said: “The new management team has brought real focus to Wyevale, both in-store and in its operating disciplines. Nicholas and his team have a proven track record of running highly successful garden retailing businesses and I relish the opportunity to be working with such a respected and horticulturally focused team”.
