For its word of the year in 2022, the Collins English Dictionary has selected permacrisis – a term that defines “an extended period of instability and uncertainty”.
It’s a perfect way to describe the sense of lurching from one unprecedented event to another – and retail is bracing itself for another unsettled year in 2023, with economic uncertainty and consumer confidence at an all-time low. Yet at the same time, now is not a time to stand still.
