The Cargo HomeShop brand may disappear if plans to bring the fascia of its new Australian parent, Freedom, to the UK are a hit with customers.
Cargo HomeShop chief executive Stephen Tague said initial changes would involve introducing Freedom product to stores, followed by rebadging some existing or new shops.
'In a year, we (Cargo) have gone from a significant loss to a significant profit,' he said. 'Freedom's expertise and clout will enable us to carve out a significant homewares business.'
Tague said transition would be closely managed as, after a just year in the job, he has succeeded in returning Cargo to profit. He is determined to hold on to loyal shoppers, adding that last month's deal included plans to refurbish the 36-store estate over three years.
Tague flies out to Australia this week to start identifying business synergies. Freedom's backing has already improved Cargo's buying power.
