The two-floor, 150,000 sq ft store includes several green initiatives including a wind turbine, natural ventilation and a lower energy lighting system.
B&Q claims the design will cut CO2 emissions by half when compared with a traditional shop of the same size.
The design also differs as it has three selling floors instead of the traditional single-level shop, and a 438-space car park located underneath it.
The shop, called B&Q Extra, is the second to open with the Extra fascia, following a trial at its Farnborough store last year. A spokeswoman for B&Q said the retailer’s 120 Warehouse shops would be rebadged as Extra this year.
The New Malden shop follows B&Q’s 78,000 sq ft eco-store that opened in Halifax in April last year.
