The upmarket grocer’s campaign centres on a remote pub in the Yorkshire Dales, where villagers meet for a drink on Christmas morning.
But when the locals become snowed in, they decide to rustle up an unexpected Christmas lunch using food from the pub’s pantry.
The 90-second ad, filmed at The Tan Hill pub and created by adam&eveDDB, has been inspired by real-life events.
The watering-hole, which is the highest pub in Britain at more than 1,700 ft above sea level, is regularly cut off by blizzards, leaving people snowed in 50 times since 2005.
The advert will air for the first time tonight on ITV.
Waitrose customer director Martin George said: “Food plays an essential role in bringing people together. When we have the opportunity to eat with others, we can enjoy great food and feel closer to those we share the experience with.
“As our ad depicts, eating together is a way to share not just food but friendship and community spirit.”
Waitrose’s campaign will also include shorter adverts showcasing its festive food, as well as cinema, digital and social media activity.
