A former Harrods executive who was set to take the reins at Fenwick later this month has decided not to join the department store, according to reports.
Retail Week revealed in July this year that Nigel Blow was set to take on the role of chief executive at Fenwick, succeeding John Edgar who left the business after almost five years at the helm.
Blow previously worked at Harrods for a 14-year period between 1992 and 2007, during the time when Harrods was owned by Mohamed Al Fayed.
The news comes following allegations of sexual abuse against Al Fayed which was uncovered in a BBC documentary, with more than 20 accounts from women who said they had been sexually abused or raped by the former owner when working at the department store.
After the allegations against Al Fayed were revealed, Blow declined to answer multiple requests for comment.
The BBC also contacted Fenwick who confirmed that Blow would no longer be taking on the role.
A spokesperson for Fenwick said: “Nigel Blow has informed us that he will no longer be taking up this position.”
Blow is currently chief executive at independently owned department store chain Morleys and has held the role of CEO at the business since March 2019.
Morleys declined to comment on Blow’s position.
Another former Harrods executive who was recently named as chief executive at Selfridges, Andre Maeder, told the BBC he was “horrified” to watch the documentary and also said he “never saw of heard anything” about Al Fayed’s “abhorrent” behaviour.
