Discounter 99p Stores ramps up expansion drive

Discount retailer 99p Stores has opened its latest outlet in Liverpool and identified potential for 150 UK shops.

The business was inspired by the success of Poundland. Liverpool is the 18th store, and the 10th opening this year.

Founder and chairman Nadir Lalani is a retail veteran, having previously launched and sold convenience store chain Whistlestop.

As a result, there is more than £4 million in the bank to fund the expansion of 99p Stores.

A further 15 sites are planned for next year, six of which have already been signed.

The Liverpool store is in Land Securities’ St John’s Centre, where Wilkinson also opened recently.
