BHS will formally disappear from the high street this Sunday, when the collapsed retailer’s remaining 22 stores will shut.

Administrators Duff & Phelps and FRP Advisory have been closing stores since it was announced in June the 88 year-old chain would be wound down after failing to find a buyer.

The final stores were initially expected to close last Saturday, but the deadline was extended in a bid to clear excess stock. However, its flagship Oxford Street store was among those that closed last weekend.

Thirteen more stores are due to close tomorrow, while the final 22 stores will be shuttered on Sunday.

The department store chain’s demise has been mired in controversy as former owners Sir Philip Green and Dominic Chappell, who acquired BHS from the Arcadia tycoon for £1 last year, have faced questions from MPs over its collapse and £571m pension deficit.
