Ernest Jones and H Samuel owner Signet Jewelers sales fell during the golden quarter due to the tough trading environment in the UK.
Signet’s international same-store sales decreased 3.1% during the 9 weeks to January 4.
However, its online sale grew 15.8% but bricks and mortar sales fell 6% on a like-for-like basis. The jewellery specialist attributed its declining sales in the UK to the “difficult operating environment”.
Its stores in North America registered a 2% uptick during the same period and online sales jumped 13.3%. However, on a like-for-like basis sales edged up just 0.4%
Total store sales grew 1.6% year-on-year and online sales grew 13.5% to $252.3m (£193m). On a like-for-like basis, total sales dipped 0.2% during the period.
