Home shopping specialist Damartex has acquired home and garden retailer Coopers of Stortford for £25m.
Damartex said the acquisition would allow it to strengthen its position in the over 55s market where it is already present with its Damart, Afibel and Sedagyl brands.
Coopers of Stortford, which specialises in home, garden and leisure, recorded sales increase of 40% to £29.6m in 2012 with EBITDA of £3.7m.
Damartex said Coopers 160 employees would be unaffected by the acquisition and the businesses would remain standalone.
The Coopers of Stortford management team will report to Damart UK managing director Andy Hill. Coopers founder Neil Cooper plans to step back from day to day involvement in the business after the sale.
