Floors-2-Go chief executive Roger McLaughlan said in a statement: “The market has been difficult over recent months, not only for Floors-2-Go but also many of our competitors in the sector. Despite pushing ahead at pace with our turnaround programme, the wider retail outlook remains challenging and therefore we have taken the decision to reduce costs in order to ensure future profitability.”
He added: “Regrettably, this means that today we have had to announce redundancies in both the support office and field teams. The process of consultation has commenced and will last until around the end of February.” The retailer is thought to have more than 600 employees.
The news is a further blow for the retail sector, as the effect of the credit crunch filters through and consumer spending collapses.
In December, the retailer revealed plans to open 30 stores in the UK this year, the retailer operates 137 UK stores.
