Gap to revamp Guildford store in UK-wide plan

Gap's store at Guildford in Surrey is undergoing a revamp as part of a series of UK store trials being carried out by the US clothing giant.

The pilot shop will reopen on the town's high street in August and will be an 'augmentation of the store environment, rather than changing everything', according to a company spokesman.

The retailer is testing store elements, such as a switch from engineered maple floors to oak hardwood flooring.

There will be an enhanced lighting scheme, and walls will be painted in different colours each season to signal the arrival of new collections.

The changes are being co-ordinated from Gap's head office in San Francisco.

Shopfitting is being undertaken by Withey Contracts.
