WHSmith has further improved its expectations for the full financial year as travel continues to perform well ahead of peak trading season.
In the 13 weeks to May 27, UK total travel revenue increased 24% from last year. Total revenue was up 26% in air, 33% in hospitals and 10% in rail – despite strike action.
Total revenue in North America in this period was up 26% on last year as new stores opened and passenger numbers continued to recover.
WHSmith’s rest of the world division jumped 79% since last year as travel in Australia and Asia recovered and the retailer is making progress with new business in Europe.
Total travel revenue across key markets was up 31% compared to last year. As peak trading season travel is approaching, the group has improved its expectations for the full financial year.
Total revenue across its high street and online trading increased 2%, with its store network total revenue up 2% versus the same period last year.
