French grocery giant Carrefour is to open its convenience store format in Dubai next month and plans to expand in the region.
Carrefour City is designed to cater for small neighbourhoods across Dubai. The shops, to be opened by Carrefour franchise partner Majid Al Futtaim, will sell 4,000 products and cover 1,075 sq ft to 4,300 sq ft.
The first shop will open next month, and there are plans to roll out across the UAE. Majid Al Futtaim said the stores will bring the “best loved aspects of Carrefour to a convenient corner store concept easily accessible to customers around the city”.
Franck Rouquet, vice president Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour Market - UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, told Gulf Business: “The Carrefour City model, a practice started in France, is developed to answer to the daily shopping needs of the residential and business communities with a focus on fresh food, beverages, groceries and dairy products.”
Carrefour debuted its City format in France in 2009 and now has more than 500 in operation.
