Boots has issued an apology after disappointed customers were mistakenly told they had won a holiday as part of a competition the retailer was running.
Messages of complaint flooded the Boots Facebook page yesterday after the health and beauty retailer emailed customers telling them they had been picked as the competition winner for a holiday to Barcelona only to be emailed hours later to say the message had been sent by mistake.
Boots confirmed “thousands” of customers had been affected but did not give an exact figure.
Angry customers left a string of comments on the Facebook page expressing their disappointment. One customer called the error “catastrophic” and another said he was “gutted” by the mistake.
But in an apology to those affected, the health and beauty giant has re-entered those affected into a new competition to win a trip to Barcelona and they have given each customer £10 worth of Boots Advantage Card points.
A spokeswoman said: “Boots UK always aims to offer exciting competitions and money can’t buy experiences and we are truly sorry for any upset that has been caused by this mistake.”
