Trading over two floors, the store will capitalise on the city’s musical heritage with an image of The Beatles across the exterior.
The store design also places greater emphasis on technology and LCDs. It has a 20 ft wall showcasing Apple products and accessories, and what HMV claims is the largest Blu-Ray high definition department outside London, with more than 3,000 titles.
HMV chief executive Simon Fox said: “This will be our largest store opening for more than 15 years, which shows our faith in the future of the high street. It will be the strongest expression yet of our next-generation retail concept.”
Design consultancy Dalziel + Pow created the blueprint for HMV’s store of the future, the first of which opened at Merry Hill in the West Midlands in September last year.
