Next-generation store debuts at Merry Hill centre in Dudley
HMV opened its eagerly-awaited next-generation store at Dudley's Merry Hill shopping centre this week.
The 8,000 sq ft shop, designed by Dalziel + Pow, aims to offer shoppers a "multichannel social shopping space", said an HMV spokesman. The store window has been replaced with a large plasma screen and there is a "social hub" area inside, where Apple products connect customers to a range of internet entertainment sites. There is also a juice bar and digital kiosks, where shoppers can download free music and video clips.
The Dudley trial shop follows a review of the business announced by chief executive Simon Fox in March. If it is successful, HMV anticipates rolling out the format elsewhere.
