Hobbs has secured a 3,450 sq ft (320 sq m) store as part of its drive to move into more markets outside the capital. The fashion retailer wants to open five such stores this year.
The store, which is the retailer’s second largest shop in the UK, will feature Hobbs’ entire collection. The retailer has outgrown its existing Bath store, which it has operated for 21 years and where it was only able to stock a limited collection.
The Milsom Place development is due to open by early summer and will be home to 26 stores and four restaurants, including the first of an Italian restaurant chain owned by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, called Jamie’s Italian.
Hobbs will be joint anchor at Milsom Place, alongside homewares and clothing retailer Cath Kidston.
Agent Markham Vaughan Gillingham acted for Hobbs. Director Nigel Gillingham said: “Bath is classic Hobbs territory. [The retailer] is very location-driven, very selective about where it goes and very conscious about sticking to its chosen demographic.”
Elsewhere in Bath, Multi Development has started work on its£360 million Southgate development. The scheme is anchored by Debenhams and the latest retailers to sign are H&M and Boots. It will open in autumn next year.
