The collapsed flooring chain may owe creditors a “considerably” higher amount, sources close to the situation told The Times.

The chain’s parent company Nestware Holdings and its owner Talal Shakerchi are facing backlash for transferring the Carpetright brand and intellectual property (IP) rights to Nestware in December in a £12m deal.

When Tapi Carpets bought the chain out of administration in July, it paid Nestware £5m for the chain’s IP with Carpetright’s owner coming under fire from insiders for not using some of the money to pay off shoppers and other creditors

Newly filed documents revealed Carpetright’s majority debt is likely to be left entirely unpaid with that the total debts to unsecured creditors amounting to £373m.

The chain owes trade creditors £226m and £148m to a total of 298 landlords such as B&M, B&Q, Asda and British Land.
