Shoppers headed out in their droves for the Boxing Day Sales yesterday, with footfall to retail parks and shopping centres increasing by 10% year on year.
The high street lost out, however, with footfall falling 9% year on year, according to data from footfall monitoring company Springboard.
Springboard says the data suggests consumers are researching purchases online before heading in-store to buy.
However, online retailers are not losing out – the IMRG predicted online shoppers will have spent £425 million on Boxing Day.
Some High Streets did perform well. High streets across Greater London came out on top, with an increase of 11%, while retail parks in Wales saw the largest increase at 18%.
The South West and the North and Yorkshire saw a huge spike in footfall to shopping centres, rising by 30% year on year.
