Department store and grocery store operator Matahari, the largest local retailer, continues to experience strong growth. Sales were up 15.3% for the first six months to June 20 to reach IDR6 trillion (£359m).
However, operating profits declined due to higher operational costs, such as wages. Sales were supported by the continuing growth from its two core businesses – department stores and supermarkets. Sales jumped 18% at the former, while the supermarket division posted 15% growth.
