The London Development Agency, the London borough of Lewisham and Transport for London have selected their preferred developer for the£250 million redevelopment of the Lewisham Gateway site in Lewisham, southeast London.
A joint venture between Amec Developments and Taylor Woodrow Developments emerged at the top of the shortlist that also included Bellway/ Bridehall, Berkeley Homes and Vinci.
The winning proposal is for 1 million sq ft (92,900 sq m) of development, including flats, shops, restaurants, bars and leisure amenities.
The project is also expected to provide a new town square, an improved transport interchange and improved highway layout, and a park on the banks of the River Quaggy.
Development is expected to begin in 2006. The consortium's project director Charlie Fulford said: 'Our vision for Lewisham Gateway is of high-quality public realm and spectacular contemporary architecture combining to create a world-class destination. We expect Lewisham Gateway to act as a catalyst for further change in the surrounding neighbourhoods.'
