Lidl has revealed the amount of corporation tax it pays in the UK for the first time. It paid “more than £25m” in 2013.
In a statement, Lidl said: “Every company has a social and economic responsibility to pay tax in correspondence with its earnings”.
“The rate of tax we pay is in line with UK law and with that paid by our UK competitors.”
Based on the analysis by Kantar Retail, that would equate to a corporation tax rate of about 20%.
That would be a similar, or slightly lower than the average rate, compared to its UK rivals.
Lidl, which has more than 600 stores in the UK, does not publish profit figures in the UK but its sales in the UK have soared 24% over the past year according to Kantar Worldpanel.
